Jewels - Part Three

Emily couldn't believe it. Some precious jewels, found at her best friend's old house? It was almost impossible. Things like this just didn't happen in Oakfield!
So, after an excited day at school, Emily waved goodbye to Sadie and set off dwon the road. Her pace was steady; after all, she had quite a way to go. She was only allowed to walk to Hammersmith Drive by herself and there she would meet her older brother Matthew.
Matthew was seventeen. His college course ended at the same time as Emily's school, so the meet-up was always at just the right time.
Another ten minutes passed and eventually Emily arrived, short of breath, at Hammersmith Drive. A tall boy with dark hair was waiting at the crossroad.
"Hi Matthew!" Emily called out. Matthew grinned and waved to his sister.
"Good day at school?" he queried. Emily nodded, and the pair set off along the pavement. The hot afternoon sun blazed down on them, and the gentle breeze rustled the leaves in the trees that lined the road.
As they turned the corner, and the mansion came into view upon the hill, Emily was reminded of Sadie's secret. A wide beam spread across her face, and this was enough for Matthew to realise that something was up.
"What's with the big grin?" he asked, grinning himself. He put his hands into his pockets as they continued along the road.
"Well..." Emily began. Then she hesitated. Surely she couldn't disobey her friend? This wasn't just a silly little secret. This was a big piece of news, and Sadie had begged Emily not to tell. But then again, this was only her brother. He was old enough to know that secrets were for keeping. It couldn't do any harm, could it? It wasn't as if Sadie would find out that Emily had spread the news or anything. So, entering a brave state of mind, Emily took a deep breath and explained everything.
"But do you promise you won't breathe a single word of this to anybody?" she finished.
"Of course I won't tell anyone," Matthew confirmed. "The secret's safe with me!"
But that was just it. Emily wasn't sure that it really was......

Jewels - Part Two

The jewels had been found by Sadie's father just a few days ago, up in the attic. A mixture of rubies, emeralds and diamonds, these jewels were not to be misplaced.
"That's amazing!" Emily gasped, her eyes wide. "So what's going to happen to the jewels now?"
Sadie hesitated.
"Well, Dad wants to sell them. He would make loads of money from them! But I'm working on changing his mind. I want to keep them, don't worry!"
At that moment, a shrill bell sounded around the school. The two girls left the fountain and headed towards their first lessons of the day.
"Oh, and remember, Emily," Sadie paused and looked straight into her friend's eyes. "You mustn't tell a soul about this. After all, you're not even supposed to know!"
Emily nodded earnestly. Sadie was sure she could trust her, but even best friends can be wrong, can't they?

Call back soon to find out if Emily really can be trusted with the secret!

Jewels - Part One

Sadie couldn't wait to get to school. Her parents had told her not to breathe a single word to anyone about it, but the news was so exciting that Sadie thought she might just about burst if she didn't tell someone!
It was quarter to nine in the morning when the school bus arrived at the school car park. The grounds were full of children, chatting and giggling noisily. The surrounding trees glistened with the early-morning dew, and birds whistled overhead, dancing in the pale blue cloudless sky.
Sadie jumped off the bus the moment the doors swung open, and hurried towards the central fountain, her school bag thumping her on the back as she ran. As usual, Emily was waiting for her, perched on the edge of the glittering fountain.
"Emily! Emily...you'll never guess what!" Sadie gabbled breathlessly, collapsing down beside her friend. Soon, the story was out. Emily gaped in awe as Sadie explained everything to her.
The thing was, this was not a secret to be spread. A collection of expensive jewels belonging to Sadie's great-great-grandfather had been discovered in the attic of the old family mansion, out in the countryside. Sadie's father had been visiting the mansion for the last few weeks to re-decorate the rooms - he was hoping to turn it into a holiday spot soon.
"Wow!" Emily shook her head slowly in disbelief. The old mansion really did give her the creeps! From the large, haunting wooden hallway to the narrow, cobweb-ridden corridors, evrything about the place was ancient and ghostly......

Call back soon to find out what happens to the jewels in the attic!
